15 Filmmakers Participate in a Film Independent Residency to Explore Cinematic Storytelling
Film Independent Residency
The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles has partnered with Film Independent to launch the Film Independent Residency, which took place from February 27 to March 3, 2023.

Fifteen selected Taiwanese filmmakers, comprising of scriptwriters, directors, and producers, have embarked on a journey to learn the intricacies and elements of a compelling pitch and present themselves and their projects to the professional mentors.

The residency program is highly practical, enabling filmmakers to develop effective pitching skills specifically for the American market. Through the program, they gained a refreshed understanding of the landscape in the American film industry, familiarizing themselves with the North American Film Festival Circuit and Awards. Additionally, they learned valuable strategies to utilize festivals as platforms for awards, publicity, and sales.

The American film industry model offers the filmmakers a way to compare and contrast the practices, challenges, and opportunities they may have to find in both the American and Taiwanese markets. In addition, the filmmakers were able to establish connections with American filmmakers and industry professionals during the residency and the 2-day visit to the streaming and producing companies.
