2 Taiwanese Films Compete for the 94th Academy Awards

Taiwanese film “The Falls,” directed by Mong-hong Chung (鍾孟宏) and short film “Night Bus,” directed by Joe Hsieh (謝文明), will represent Taiwan to compete at the 94th Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film and the Best Animated Short Film respectively next year. The shortlists for the 94th Academy Awards will be revealed on December 21, 2021, and the nominations will be out on February 8, 2022. Taiwanese Short Film “Night Bus” Selected for 2022 Sundance Film Festival

The Sundance Institute unveiled its lineup for the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, set to run January 20-30, which comprises 82 features from 28 countries and 59 shorts from 26 countries. The Taiwanese short film “Night Bus” is selected in “International Animation Short Films” program. Directed by Joe Hsieh, “Night Bus” not only received Grand Prix at Animafest Zagreb and Public Prize at Ottawa International Animation Festival, but also represents Taiwan to compete at the 94th Academy Awards for the Best Animated Short Film. It depicts that on a late-night bus, a panic scream shatters the night’s calm, a necklace is stolen, followed by a tragic and fatal road accident. Taiwanese filmmakers Nominated for 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards

2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards Nominations were just announced, within which Taiwanese producers Pin-Chun Liu and David Yu-Hao Su’s work “Test Pattern” has been nominated for Best First Feature, Best First Screenplay, and Best Female Lead. Pin-Chun Liu has also been nominated for Best Producers Award. Taiwanese cinematographer Ante Cheng has been nominated for Best Cinematography for his work “Blue Bayou,” which was premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. Taiwanese Artist Shu Lea Cheang’s “UKI Virus Rising” Featured in exhibition " Witch Hunt " at the Hammer Museum

From October 10th 2021 to January 9th 2022, the exhibition “Witch Hunt” at the Hammer Museum features 15 works of 16 women artists. It has been widely praised in the press as “compelling” and “powerful.” The only Taiwanese artist Shu Lea Cheang is invited to display her installation “UKI Virus Rising.” The virus is the exploratory subject of Shu Lea Cheang’s works since the 2000s. As a source of contagion, the virus is associated with invasion and also inscribed with the potentiality to propagate, mobilize, and resist.
