Film Independent Launches Application for Taiwan Academy Fellowship in Producing Lab , with application deadline extended to July 1st

Following “the Taiwan 2020 Residency in Los Angeles,” Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles of Ministry of Culture collaborates yet again with Film Independent to launch “Taiwan Academy Fellowship” as a grant to support a Taiwanese filmmaker(s) who is accepted into the Film Independent Producing Lab for their creative and logistic needs to develop their projects. Only one applicant (or one filmmaking team) will be awarded this fellowship. The awarded applicant will receive a stipend of 10,000 US dollars and will participate in the Producing Lab for a week in October. The application is now open until July 1st (before 11:59pm PDT, local time in Los Angeles, California, USA), 2020. All aspiring Taiwanese filmmakers are welcome to apply.

The fellowship program will take place from October 4th to 9th, 2020.

4th Annual Taiwanese American Film Festival Launches Its First Outreach Event That Presents Virtual Talk Show “So What Now?!” for Revealing 2020 Programming

With the support from the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan and Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, the 4th Annual Taiwanese American Film Festival (TAFF) is held by Taiwanese American Professionals - Los Angeles (TAP-LA) in October. Besides, two outreach events and two workshops will be featured prior to the Film Festival. For the first outreach event of the year, TAP-LA and the 4th TAFF will present “So What Now?!” on May 23rd, 2020, a virtual talk show hosted by Anthony Ma and Roxy Shih, in observance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, May 2020, in partnership with Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF).

The virtual talk show “So What Now?!” will be streaming on Facebook Live on Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST, featuring special guest Randall Park, who has gained attention from playing Kim Jong Un in the interview(Columbia/Sony). Randall also played the father in Fresh Off The Boat (ABC) and has won twice the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series selected by the Broadcast Television Critics Association. He has also co-written and starred in Always Be My Maybe (Netflix) in 2019.

2020 NTT-TIFA (Taiwan International Festival of Arts) organized by the National Performing Arts Center – National Taichung Theater (NTT) continues focusing on the technology impact on modern society and the art world. This year, NTT-TIFA under the curatorial theme of “Human Warmth in Hi-Tech Art”, the festival is featuring a live stream of the latest interdisciplinary creation by its resident artist Wang Lien-cheng. The new work leverages a combination of technology and body movement to explore various prospects of digital aesthetics and kinesics, as well as to demonstrate the human struggles in the development of the digital era.

Online Theater by B.DANCE

In order to connect to the world in a diverse and meaningful way, B.DANCE launches “B.DANCE Online Theater” project to present their award-winning creations by artistic director, Po-Cheng Tsai. Mr. Tsai is a Taiwanese choreographer who has created performances for a variety of recognized international dance companies, such as INTRODANS(NL), Tanz Luzerner Theater(CH), Gauthier Dance(DE), Cloud Gate 2(TW), Konzert Theater Bern(CH). The most famous production “Floating Flowers” is inspired by a traditional Taiwanese religious celebration that takes place at the Ghost Festival, one of the Buddhist ceremonies. This Online Theater invites audience to enjoy four productions together: Floating Flowers, Hugin/Munin, Innermost, and ORTHRUS. Welcome to enjoy this show with the introduction by Po-Cheng Tsai!

The online edition of the 2020 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE)—New Horizons of Reading, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, and organized by the Taipei Book Fair Foundation—will open on May 15th.Themed as New Horizons of Reading, the online version of TiBE 2020 will be presented in four major parts (including TiBE 2020 Themed Exhibitions Online, TiBE 2020 Reading Salons Online, TiBE 2020 Online Book Show, and Reading News),six themed exhibitions, 500+ videos, and 1000+ books.
