"A Root" Kicks Off 2022 Latin America Tour in Mexico and Chile

"A Root" is a world fusion ensemble that brings together the Sheng, Ruan, Liuqin, Piano, Double Bass, and World Percussions since 2016. Incorporating with Taiwanese and Western instrumental music, the ensemble creates soundscapes crossing musical cultures and geographical borders. It combines jazz, indie, and urban folk into a unique expression of world music in between modern and traditional. Watch Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan “13 Tongues” at Segerstrom Center & Berkeley

As the COVID pandemic is receding after two years, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan resumed its first overseas tour in the US in October, with its current Artistic Director CHENG Tsung-lung’s 13 Tongues. The 23rd San Diego Asian Film Festival Features Fantastic Taiwanese Films

The 23rd San Diego Asian Film Festival (SDAFF) will run from November 3 to November 12, 2022. For the eleventh consecutive year, the Taiwan Academy of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles (TECO-LA) has collaborated with SDAFF to present the “Taiwan Film Showcase.” It includes screenings at the UCSD Price Center Theater and UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas of five feature films, including "Mama Boy," "Gaga," "Remember Me," "A Confucian Confusion," and "Girl's School," as well as five short films, "The Moon and the Tree," "Good Day," "The Making of Crime Scenes," "Sappukei," and "Bigger is Better." These films show the American public the breadth of Taiwan's artistic vision. This year’s SDAFF will feature more than 130 films from more than 30 countries. Dreaming Under the Tree at “Whispers of Trees”: 2022 Seattle and Los Angeles Tour

“Whispers of Tree” music concert launches its first US tour in November. There are three performances at Benaroya Hall, Huntington Library and Torrance Cultural Center, prospectively on November 2nd, 5th and 6th. This cross-collaboration by Taiwanese composer Hsuan-hung Chou and film director Zhao-yi Wei focuses on trees and consists of the conducted recording, filming, soundscaping, and music writing in Kaohsiung.The two artists will attend the post-show Q&A session in person and talk about their concept creations. 2022 Hawaii International Film Festival Launches Spotlight on Taiwan

The Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) is now in its 42nd year, and for the 12th consecutive year, the Taiwan Academy of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles has collaborated with the HIFF to launch "Spotlight on Taiwan," which screens Taiwanese feature films like "Goddamned Asura," "Mama Boy," "Gaga," and "Demi God" in Hawaii Consolidated Theatres Kahala as well as online streaming of short films like “Tank Fairy,” “To the Sea,” “Do not go gentle in Taipei” and “Swallow” . Among them, Yian Lou, director of "Goddamned Asura", and Arvin Cheng, director of "Mama Boy", will attend the post-screening discussion to share with the audience a behind-the-scenes story. HIFF promotes cultural exchanges between Asia, the Pacific Islands and the North American continent through films. It attaches great importance to Asia-Pacific films and emerging directors. This year, 102 feature films and 124 short films from more than 30 countries will be screened in- person from November 3 to 20, together with online streaming screening from November 3 to 27，while the winners will be announced on Nov. 13. A special screening of "Goddamned Ashura," Taiwan's entry for the 95th Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, will take place on November 10 in Hollywood



The Asian International Film Festival, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency and the Taiwan Academy of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles will jointly hold a special screening event for the film "Goddamned Ashura" at the AMC Marina Marketplace 6 on Thursday, November 10, 2022. "Goddamned Ashura" won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 58th Golden Horse Awards in 2021, and was nominated for 9 awards at the 2022 Taipei Film Awards in 2022. It also won the Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Soundtrack. In the same year, it won the Special Jury Prize at the Taoyuan Film Festival. Based on real social events, "Goddamned Ashura" depicts a random murder incident in a night market, where six characters’ stories begins. The scene's multi-line narrative and the idea of an online game were integrated together by director Lou Yian. In the conclusion, the director also poses a number of queries regarding the family, workplace culture, Internet, and other social challenges specific to this generation. Following the screening is the Director Lou Yian’s post-screening discussion and a reception. The directors, producers, actors, and other Hollywood professionals in the film and television industries, as well as the media, are invited to participate, aiming to broaden the film's appeal and support Taiwan's Oscar campaign.
