With support from the Ministry of Culture (MOC) and Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, Taiwanese artist Ciwas Tahos (also known as Anchi Lin, 林安琪) is featured in the Hawai’i Triennial 2025, presenting her work “Pswagi Temahahoi (找尋 Temahahoi的路徑).”

Ciwas Tahos is a Taipei-raised and -based new media and performance artist of Atayal/Itaṟal and Taiwanese Hō-ló descent. Ciwas’ body- centered practice weaves Indigenous Atayal worldview through performance, moving image, cyberspace, ceramics, and kinetic installation to claim a self-determined queer space.

Jerry Chang (張詩瑞), director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu, attended the Triennial’s opening on Feb. 15. He extended his hope that the participation of Taiwanese artists in the exhibition will foster deeper cultural exchange between Taiwan, Hawai’i, and the Pacific Islands. Ciwas led the opening performance, which featured Indigenous Paiwan artist Sauljaljuy (王艾琳), Indigenous Puyuma artist Sinkuy Katadrepan (辛桂·格達德班), and Hawai’i-based artist.

Chien Te-yuan (簡德源), director of Taiwan Academy if Los Angeles, highlighted the shared origins and migration history between the peoples of Taiwan and Hawai’i. By exploring this history through the lens of contemporary art, he added, a closer cultural and social connection can be built between both sides.

The triennial exhibition is taking place until May 4. For more information, visit the Triennial’s website: https://hawaiicontemporary.org/
