The annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is set for April 26 to 27, 2025, drawing hundreds of exhibitors and more than five hundred authors to take part in the festival. The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, with the support of the Ministry of Culture in Taiwan, will showcase Taiwanese Literature in Translation at Booth 148, inviting book enthusiasts to explore Taiwanese creations.
The Ministry of Culture in Taiwan has established the policy of translation publication of Taiwanese literature as a priority. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is one of the biggest book festivals in the U.S. and is a great opportunity to promote and extend the publicity of books from Taiwan. A collection of publications for the year 2024-2025 is presented, including “Taiwan Travelogue,” by Yáng Shuang-zi and translated from Mandarin Chinese by Lin King, the winners of the 2024 American Book Award for Literary Translation; “Ká-Sióng,” a set of five thrillingly distinctive chapbooks that features writers and translators from Taiwan; “Banana King,” the longlisted for the PEN America Literary Awards and PEN Translation Prize in 2025; “Elephant Herd: A Novel,” by Zhang Guixing, the recipient of the Newman Prize for Chinese Literature; and the Children’s book, “Wild Greens, Beautiful Girl,” that weaves in rich details about Indigenous culture, heritage, history, and language.
Additionally, a meet-up with the Taiwanese American author of “Spring, Summer, Asteroid, Bird: The Art of Eastern Storytelling” is scheduled for 2:00 PM on April 26.
