With support from Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the Taipei Cultural Center in Los Angeles returns to San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) from July 24 to 27, 2025. In collaboration with the Taiwan Comic Publishers Association, the “T-COMICS” pavilion (Booth #5524) will feature acclaimed Taiwanese artists Zhou Jian-Xin and creative duo Emo x Yachter, who will meet with international fans and present stories that highlight personal memory, democratic history, and sustainability through comics.

Zhou Jian-Xin, author of Son of Formosa, is widely recognized for his sensitive portrayal of Taiwan’s democratic development and personal histories through the eyes of ordinary citizens. The graphic novel has been translated into seven languages and has received numerous international honors, including the Freeman Book Awards (Young Adult Category, U.S.), the GLLI Translated YA Book Prize, and the Max & Moritz Prize (Germany). He is known as a storyteller who uses comics to make history deeply personal and emotionally resonant.

Emo x Yachter, a husband-and-wife team, debut their original long-form comic Bottoms Up! Wine Glasses No Goldfish, inspired by their cycling journey around Taiwan and the island’s local wine culture. It is also the first Taiwanese comic to receive FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) sustainability certification, a testament to their commitment to the environment and storytelling that honors place and memory.

Both artists will participate in an official SDCC panel:

Small Voices, Big Stories: Personal Narratives in Taiwanese Comics

Saturday, July 26, 5:00–6:00 PM

Room 25ABC

Moderated by Hsin-Yi Chen, the talk explores how comics can preserve memory, reflect history, and build cross-cultural connections.

In addition, Taiwanese-American concept artist Max Wan will present his original works at Artist Alley booth HH-19. Known for blending cinematic realism and sci-fi aesthetics, Wan will debut two new art books during the convention, bringing a unique visual voice from the Taiwanese diaspora to SDCC.

According to the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, San Diego Comic-Con attracts more than 130,000 attendees each year and generated over $165 million in spending and $3.2 million in tax revenue in 2024. Since first joining the convention in 2019, the Taiwan Pavilion has continued to strengthen its ties with global publishers and studios. This year’s exhibition features 23 comics and light novels selected from the Taiwan IP Showcase platform, highlighting the richness of Taiwanese storytelling and expanding international licensing opportunities.
