With the support of Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles is partnering with Film Independent (FI) on a series of programs in Los Angeles from September 25–28, 2026, including the Film Independent Forum on September 25–26 and Between Worlds: Short Film Series on September 28. The programs highlight the creativity and international potential of Taiwan’s independent cinema.
At this year’s Forum, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Shih-Ching Tsou, director of Left-Handed Girl, will participate in “Crossing Borders: The International Landscape for Indies,” sharing her experience with Taiwan-U.S. co-productions, international markets and independent filmmaking.
On September 28, Between Worlds: Short Film Series will present eight short films from Taiwan and the United States. The four Taiwanese selections are Falling Mist, directed by Yu-Jin Zhuang; Somewhere in Time, River and Stone, directed by Paulie Chih-Chia Huang; Till Next Time, directed by Yan-ping Wang; and This Is NOT My Cow, directed by Chih-Wen Lin. All four filmmakers will attend the screening in Los Angeles and participate in a post-screening conversation.
Through the Forum and the short film program, Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles aims to increase the international visibility of Taiwanese cinema and create new opportunities for exchange and collaboration between filmmakers in Taiwan and the United States.
