Experience Life in Motion at The Music Center

Life in Motion is an immersive digital installation by Taiwanese artist Po-Hao Chi and Zone Sound Creative. Blending art and technology, the work transforms the space into a responsive environment where light, sound, and movement shift in real time with each visitor’s presence.

Through a series of interactive scenes, audiences are invited to explore, play, and experience how their movements shape the surrounding visuals and soundscape. The installation offers a dynamic encounter that highlights the connection between the human body, digital systems, and the rhythms of life.

The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the University of California system, is proud to present a series of lecture-demonstrations from April 29 to May 1 featuring VMTheatre, the creative force behind the acclaimed Taiwanese musical Don’t Cry, Dancing Girls. Recognized as a 2021-2025 TAIWAN TOP Performing Arts Group, VMTheatre masterfully blends New York-style musical structures with Taiwan’s rich local heritage—a formula that led to their historic breakthrough on a Broadway stage in early 2025. This upcoming series, titled "Contemporary Translation of Taiwan’s Spirit-Guiding Ritual and Western Musical Theatre Storytelling," invites drama professionals and students to explore the localization of performance art. The talk will be given by Chris Tseng (Artistic Director), Evan Lin (Producer), and Chang Ching-Chia (Leading Actress).

Together with Stanford University, we are pleased to invite you to join Visions of Taiwan’s Future: Navigating Paths through Democracy, Technology, and Culture, a one-day conference hosted by Stanford’s Taiwan Program on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) at the Mackenzie Room, Jen-Hsun Huang Engineering Center, Stanford University. This conference brings together scholars, practitioners, and cultural leaders to explore Taiwan’s future through three interconnected themes: democratic resilience, technological transformation, and cultural production. As Taiwan stands at the center of debates over misinformation, AI, and the cultural and creative industries, the conference offers a timely opportunity to examine these issues in conversation with leading experts. The program will feature Shih-Ching Tsou, the Director of Left-Handed Girl, and Brain Hu, the Artistic Director of San Diego Asian Film Festival on the Panel 3 in the afternoon. From Formosa: Taiwan Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble 2026 U.S. Tour

This May, the Taiwan Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble (NSO) returns to the United States with From Formosa, a chamber music tour celebrating Taiwanese American Heritage Month and the cultural connections between Taiwan and the U.S. Led by concertmaster Hao-Tun Teng, the ensemble joins pianist Chun-Chieh Yen and the acclaimed Taiwu Ballads Troupe to present a vibrant program that bridges Western classical traditions with Taiwan’s diverse cultural heritage, featuring works by Aaron Copland, Tyzen Hsiao, and new commissions by Taiwanese composers. A special highlight includes a cross-cultural collaboration with Native American flute master R. Carlos Nakai in Phoenix, creating a powerful dialogue between Indigenous musical traditions from Taiwan and North America.

Celebrate AAPI heritage in May at Los Angeles Public Library and Cerritos Library

In a collaboration with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Dr. Yun-Shang Chiou and Dr. Ellen Wang’s team will present a series of cultural events for the upcoming AAPI Heritage Month. On May 16, they will host a booth at the Los Angeles Central Library rotunda to introduce Taiwanese indigenous culture through painting, legends, language, and literature as part of the “AAPI Joy: AAPI Voices, Then & Now” celebration. The following week, a poster exhibition at the Cerritos Library will explore the evolution of Taiwanese indigenous culture within the broader context of the Austronesian peoples, highlighting the significant historical links between Taiwan and the Pacific Islands. Furthermore, on May 23, the team will curate a series of DIY workshops and presentations at the library with the active participation of Cerritos High School students.
