New Release: Exploring Taiwan through "A Taiwanese Ecoliterature Reader"
TC-newsletter pic (202601 環境書寫)
We are excited to highlight A Taiwanese Ecoliterature Reader, a groundbreaking collection edited by Ian Rowen, Ti-Han Chang, and Darryl Sterk, recently published by Columbia University Press. As part of the Literature from Taiwan collection initiated by The National Museum of Taiwan Literature and National Taiwan Normal University, this anthology offers a profound look into Taiwan’s literary imagination of nature, featuring a diverse range of voices from celebrated authors like Wu Ming-Yi (吳明益) and Chi Ta-wei (紀大偉) to Indigenous writer Syaman Rapongan. Spanning contemporary fiction, Indigenous perspectives, and eco-critical science fiction, these expertly translated stories examine the intersection of ecological consciousness and the search for Taiwanese identity. By centering both human and non-human perspectives, the Reader captures the essence of a society where high-tech life meets a deep, enduring connection to the environment - an essential read for anyone interested in the evolving subject of Taiwan as it emerges onto the global literary stage. The same series’ other two titles which was recently published include Syaman Rapongan’s Eyes of the Ocean and Kaori Lai’s Portraits in White.
