On August 10, the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles and the American Cinematheque co-presented the first overseas marathon screening of Tsai Ming-liang’s complete Walker series at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. Nearly 400 audience members joined the ten-hour cinematic journey, creating a lively and immersive atmosphere.

Since its debut in 2012, the Walker series has traveled to eight cities, blending performance art with Buddhist philosophy. At the Los Angeles marathon, each film was introduced by Director Tsai and actor Lee Kang-sheng, who also invited audience members on stage to experience the signature “slow walk,” creating one of the event’s most memorable moments.

“This work should never stop,” Tsai remarked. “I don’t know how far or how long it will go—wherever I’m invited, I will go. Perhaps one day there will be a twenty-film Walker marathon.”

The 2025 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) took place from July 24 to 27 at the San Diego Convention Center, bringing together more than 130,000 fans from around the world. This year, the Taiwan Pavilion (#5524) continued the T-COMICS theme, featuring acclaimed comic artists Zhou Jian-Xin (The Boy from Clearwater), creative duo Imo & Yachter (Bottoms up! Wine Glasses no Goldfish), and LA-based concept artist Max Wan at Artist Alley (HH-19).

Every signing session sold out within an hour! Fans eagerly lined up for limited-edition shikishi boards signed by Zhou Jian-Xin and Imo & Yachter, making each event a highlight of the show floor.

Day 2: Zhou Jian-Xin, Imo & Yachter, and Max Wan joined the official international comics panel Comics from Around the World: Your Passport Through Sequential Art, exchanging insights on Asian comic storytelling and cultural perspectives with creators from across the globe. The discussion drew strong audience engagement, with many attendees visiting the Taiwan Pavilion afterward to support original Taiwanese works.

Day 3: Zhou Jian-Xin and Imo & Yachter returned to the stage for Small Voices, Big Stories (Room 25ABC), sharing how comics preserve memory, convey identity, and connect readers across languages and cultures.

Special Congratulations: Former Taiwan Academy collaborator EJ Su won the prestigious Eisner Award for Best Anthology for his work as a cover artist on Godzilla: 70th Anniversary (IDW Publishing). This marks a significant recognition for a Taiwanese creator in the U.S. comics industry.
