Kuroshio Odyssey: Maritime Memories, Culture, and Landscapes
The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles and the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture are joining forces for the very first time to curate an exhibition centered the theme of "Space and Ethnicity." This exhibition will highlight recent globally resonant topics related to Taiwan's eastern marine landscapes and the rich tapestry of indigenous cultures. It will be on display from October 14 to November 28, 2023.

The grand opening ceremony took place at the Intellectual House (wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ), on the University of Washington campus on October 14, 2023. Led by Ms. Robin Little Wing Sigo of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribes, a land acknowledgment ceremony welcomed and blessed this exchange program, expressing gratitude and respect for the people who protect this land. Following this, local Indigenous elders in Seattle sang Amis songs in return, offering blessings and thanks.

The exhibition will not only showcase the Burke Museum's nearly century-old collection of Taiwanese indigenous artifacts but also include dialogues with four Taiwanese indigenous representatives: Director Uki Bauki, Sra Kacaw, Dumai Manaaki, and Sayang Anang. The program includes activities such as film screenings of "Mutralun・與山" followed by discussions, an online scholarly forum, traditional Amis cuisine, reading group, and crafting workshop.
