ISSUE#2025-0421_圖片_4
Working on the political ecologies of water, Su Yu Hsin has been using films and installations to interpret the interrelations of art and environment. After receiving the Ministry of Culture’s grant for residency in 18th Street Art Center (Los Angeles) last year, she is invited to join the exhibition “Future Flows” in MarinMOCA (San Rafael, North Bay Area, CA) to examine the Bay as both a vital ecosystem and a key indicator of the global climate crisis. “Future Flows” connects the specific histories, rights, and futures of water in the Bay Area to global concerns, highlighting the interconnectedness of water systems and aiming to foster a deeper understanding of our relationship with water and its critical role in a sustainable future. Her works “Sunless Circuit” and “Particular Waters” are selected to be curated with several works of ten global and local artists. The exhibition is on display between April 19 and July 6. Material Gallery, located in Salt Lake City, is pleased to present "Ink Shadows", a new series of ink paintings, including Asian folding screens, by the renowned Taiwanese artist Lu Wei. She was one of resident artists in the 18th St Art Center (Los Angeles) in 2023. She further expanded her art network to Utah, facilitating her creations and exhibitions across the state. In "Ink Shadows", she focuses on interpreting "shadows" through the unique medium and spirituality of ink painting from a multicultural standpoint across time to heal and empower female characters historically depicted as "dark"' or "'negative". She draws from religious, literary, mythological, and mother archetypes to reflect on her woman experience and her transition to motherhood, creating a distinct and thought-provoking body of work through a contemporary lens.
