  • Date:2022-04-02

The 2022 GRAMMYs Awards show, officially known as the 64th GRAMMY Awards, will take place on April 3rd in Las Vegas. Taiwanese designers Qing Yang Xiao, Jheng Han Li and Wei Yu have been nominated for the Best Recording Package. The three nominated designers will attend the show together.

Nominees of the 64th GRAMMY Awards were announced on November 24th last year. Among the five albums nominated for the Best Recording Package, there are two made by Taiwanese designers. Famous designer Qing Yang Xiao was nominated for the album Zeta as his sixth GRAMMY nomination. The young designers Jheng Han Li and Wei Yu are first-time nominees for the album Pakelang collaborated with the “Second Generation Falangao Singing Group” and “The Chairman.”

After the first nomination in 2005 for the album The Wondering Accordion, Qing Yang Xiao continuously got nominations in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2019. Zeta, produced by fine Entertainment's rock band “Soul of Ears,” is based on the background story of the future war between humans and AI. There are 13 songs intertwined with multiple musical styles such as metal, electronic music and hardcore rock. Xiao will attend the ceremony with producer Yu Chen Lai, and this journey will become a documentary. Additionally, they will sell Zeta as an NFT album and donate a portion of the revenue to international anti-war organizations.

For Pakelang, “Second Generation Falangao Singing Group” and “The Chairman” rearrange the Amis’ ancient ballads with elements of reggae, electronic and rock music. The designers Jheng Han Li and Wei Yu started out with the images of Taiwan’s east coast (location of Falangaw Tribe), by using paper cutouts to show the silhouettes of coastlines, mountain ranges and the Amis people singing. The design makes audiences feel closer to Taiwan’s aboriginal culture and marine environment.

Due to the pandemic, the 2022 GRAMMYs Awards show, originally scheduled for January 31st in Los Angeles, has been rescheduled for April 3rd at 5 p.m. PT in Las Vegas. For more information, please visit: https://www.grammy.com/
