2023 San Diego Comic-Con

Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), the largest comics and animation event in the United States, will take place at the San Diego Convention Center from July 20 to 23, 2023. This year, the Taiwan Exhibit will showcase the theme "T-Comics,” featuring comic creators Chang Sheng and Kaizbow as special guests. Attendees can also look forward to a collection of Su Huan-Jen minifigures from Pili Puppetry series. Additionally, the Taiwan Academy of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles has partnered with the Chinese Animation & Comic Publishers Association to launch the "Taiwan IP Showcase" themed website (https://taiwanipshowcase.com.tw/). This online platform highlights a range of Taiwan comics, offering a free English preview of 27 selected titles and a Spanish catalogue.

Chang Sheng started his comic creation career in 2002. His famous works include Dream Hotel, Baby, Oldman, The Hidden Level, Nine Lives Man and YAN. He has participated in the Louvre's comic projects and created a compilation entitled Sept rêves du Louvre. He has sold rights to publish his works in Japanese, French, Korean, English, and Italian. As part of this year's events, Chang Sheng will be hosting a book signing event at Vroman’s Bookstore. Additionally, he has been invited to participate in an official panel at SDCC, where he will share his invaluable insights and writing expertise with the attendees.

As a comic and illustration artist, Kaizbow excels at using painted watercolor style to create fantasy/realistic scenes with female themes. In 2017, her work titled “Witch” was shortlisted for the Kyoto International Comics Awards. In 2022, another work titled “Justice” won the Second-prize Award at the Kyoto International Manga Awards and the Bronze Award at the Japan International Manga Awards. At SDCC, Kaizbow will be partaking in an official panel where she will delve into the relevant social issues explored in her acclaimed work, “Justice.”

According to the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, SDCC stands as the world's largest and longest-running comic and pop culture event. With over one hundred thousand visitors each year, it presents an exceptional platform to showcase Taiwan Comics and foster connections. This is an unmissable opportunity to engage with Taiwanese artists at the Taiwan Exhibit and participate in various events in collaboration with local bookstores and publishers.
