An ongoing exhibition in Los Angeles detailing the life of late Taiwanese composer Hsiao Tyzen (蕭泰然) will be accompanied by a special dance performance on Dec. 3.
"Small Things with My Father” is a live performance that combines dance and theater for physical story-telling, set to a music score written by the late virtuoso Hsiao.
Specifically adapted for gallery space at the Taiwan Academy in Westwood, the performance deals with presence and absence, in space and in spirit, and with the meaning and narrative possibilities of movement.
It represents physical memories and relationships and (re)creates new ones, in the moment, borne out of both personal histories and the immediacy of the performance space and the live audience.
It is a celebration of life, a commemoration, and a prayer, noted Mauro Sacchi, an Italian choreographer-dancer based in Taiwan. Sacchi will direct, stage, and perform "Small Things with My Father” alongside dancer Bonnie Lin (林宇禾).
The retrospective exhibition "Hsiao Tyzen: Music Without Borders” will run until Dec. 18.
