Six films from Taiwan will be shown in downtown Los Angeles from April 23 to 30 as part of the 2015 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, the largest of its kind in Southern California.
The lineup will kick off with five short productions — "520 Huilan (520慧蘭),” "An Ordinary Day (我們之間),” "Bound (高接梨),” "Coming Home (回家),” and "Mobile (手機)” — and round off with feature film "(Sex) Appeal (寒蟬效應).”
"520 Huilan” by Taiwan-based Spanish director Albert Ventura follows a fake kidnapping and romantic proposal gone wrong, while "An Ordinary Day” details the struggles of a stagnate relationship.
Taiwanese-American filmmaker Philip K. Liao explore cultural and generational gap in "Bound,” "Coming Home” examines parent-child and same-sex relationships, while "Mobile” captures family confrontation upon an absentee father's return.
"(Sex) Appeal (寒蟬效應),” a coming-of-age film by director Wang Wei-ming (王維明), is an ambitious study on how teacher-student sexual assault can lead to conflicting outcomes. Wei will also host a Q&A session after the film's North America premiere on April 28.
