“Mama PingPong Social Club” Shortlisted for 2019 Palm Springs International ShortFest Awards

After shortlisted for Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival Awards this May, Taiwanese film “Mama PingPong Social Club” again got shortlisted for Palm Springs International Short Film Festival Awards ! There will be one screening of this film at the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs on June 20th at 7:30pm.

Directed by Shiang-An Chuang, the short film “Mama PingPong Social Club” (26 minutes) depicts a lonely middle-aged woman A-Mian with a husband and a daughter who are rarely home. After finding out her husband’s affair, she decided to search for a new focus in life. She joins an old schoolmate in a pingpong club for moms. She soon notices it is like a utopia for moms inside the club: energetic, with sweat and smiles. When an unlucky accident changes her body dramatically, she becomes a vampire. She might hence find a way to make her daughter stay with her forever. This time she is determined to find the perpetual happiness….

Shiang-An Chuang was graduated from the Department of Filmmaking in Taipei National University of the Arts, with a major in Directing. His first short film “After Spinning” was shortlisted for Golden Harvest Awards. “Mama PingPong Social Club”, his latest work, has won the Best Narrative Short at 2018 DC Chinese Film Festival and shortlisted for awards at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival’s Bucheon Choice: Shorts, Busan International Short Film Festival, and etc.

The Palm Springs International Short Film Festival will take place from June 18th to the 24th this year. It is the largest short film event in North America. A highly competitive festival, ShortFest receives around 5000 submissions from over 100 countries around the globe. Approximately 325 shorts are selected and screened in 90-minute themed programs. An Oscar-qualifying festival, ShortFest has presented more than 100 shorts that have gone on to receive Oscar nominations and/or awards.
