  • Date:2020-05-18

With the support from the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan and Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, the 4th Annual Taiwanese American Film Festival (TAFF) is held by Taiwanese American Professionals - Los Angeles (TAP-LA) in October. Besides, two outreach events and two workshops will be featured prior to the Film Festival. For the first outreach event of the year, TAP-LA and the 4th TAFF will present “So What Now?!” on May 23rd, 2020, a virtual talk show hosted by Anthony Ma and Roxy Shih, in observance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, May 2020, in partnership with Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF).

“So What Now?!” is a one-hour talk show and interactive workshop for creatives. Out of a response to the limitations that filmmakers and artists now have as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, former TAFF festival directors Anthony Ma and Roxy Shih are hosting a virtual interactive variety show, featuring special guests from the Asian-American community.

The virtual talk show “So What Now?!” will be streaming on Facebook Live on Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST, featuring special guest Randall Park, who has gained attention from playing Kim Jong Un in the interview(Columbia/Sony). Randall also played the father in Fresh Off The Boat (ABC) and has won twice the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series selected by the Broadcast Television Critics Association. He has also co-written and starred in Always Be My Maybe (Netflix) in 2019. Anthony and Roxy will share their backgrounds as Taiwanese-American filmmakers, and how their involvement with TAP-LA and TAFF have supported them and the filmmaking community around them. They will lead the audience through relevant topics and comedy sketches, and interview Randall Park for exploring how he finds creativity during the pandemic, and thoughts on the future of Asian American identity and culture in today’s climate. Randall will lead a workshop incorporating creative exercises to inspire our audience, followed by an interactive Q&A.
